Subaru Moves into Esports with the 2017 Subaru Invitational

Monday, May 8th, 2017

Los Angeles, CA, April 4, 2017 – Damage, a full-service esports agency, today announced the 2017 Subaru Invitational, a competitive gaming tournament, in partnership with Subaru of America, Inc., to promote the all-new Subaru Impreza. The invitation-only Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a professional tournament that will bring together the top eight North American Counter-Strike teams to play for a cash prize of $20,000. The teams will compete in a single elimination best-out-of-three tournament format played over a 24-hour period on May 13 - 14, 2017.

“Subaru is proud to support the young enthusiasts of the esports community through hosting our first invite-only tournament.” said Eric Park, Zone Retailer Marketing Manager, Subaru of America, Inc. “Our goal is to build brand affinity with a highly-engaged, dedicated millennial community that shares our core values and are ready for wherever the road takes them.”

The all-new Subaru Impreza is the automaker’s latest evolution of the brand’s compact sedan and 5-door vehicle, which aligns perfectly with the young, fast-paced lifestyle of the millennial generation. “Millennial esports fans have a fierce dedication to the games and its players. We understand and appreciate that kind of passion and it was an easy decision to dedicate ourselves to the esports movement,” continued Park.

As part of the 2017 Subaru Invitational, Damage and Subaru of America, Inc. will donate $1,000.00 to Anxiety Gaming, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to revolutionizing the way the world approaches mental health care with an emphasis on recovery from depression and anxiety amongst gamers.

“Damage is thrilled to be working with such a passionate automotive brand that genuinely believes in the power of giving back and doing good. As Subaru’s esports partner, this is a tremendous opportunity to help design a tournament to reach our audience and further amplify esports on a global level,” said Brian Kim, managing partner, Damage.

The tournament will be live-streamed on Twitch TV at twitch.tv/SubaruEsports on May 13-14, 2017.
