ELEAGUE to Host Next CS:GO Major Championship, January 26-28, 2018 in Boston

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

October 5, 2017

ELEAGUE, the premium esports tournament and content brand from Turner and IMG, will hold its second Major Championship in two years featuring Valve’s popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The ELEAGUE Major: Boston will showcase live competition originating from Boston University’s Agganis Arena – including the Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Championship – Friday through Sunday, January 26-28.

Early round competition, including the ELEAGUE Major Qualifier (January 12-15) and Group Stage (January 19-22), will take place at ELEAGUE Arena at Turner Studios in Atlanta. Digital coverage of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston will include the Qualifier, Group Stage and Playoffs presented live across Twitch, ELEAGUE.com and YouTube, with programming also available on TBS.

“We’re looking forward to hosting our second ELEAGUE Major in back-to-back years and bringing a CS:GO championship to Boston for the first time,” said Craig Barry, Chief Content Officer, Turner Sports. “Following the record-setting engagement during last year’s ELEAGUE Major, we appreciate Valve’s ongoing trust in us and all of the continued support from the esports community.”

Road to Boston
Sixteen CS:GO teams will compete for the title of The ELEAGUE Major: Boston Champion and the largest share of the event’s $1 million prize pool. The top eight finishers from the previous Major – PGL Major Champion Gambit Esports, previous ELEAGUE Major Champion Astralis, Immortals, Virtus.pro, FNATIC, SK Gaming, BIG and Team North – will be invited as Legend teams. The bottom eight finishers from the prior Major will compete for eight Challenger berths via the ELEAGUE Major Qualifier.

The Minors
Minor Championships will determine the eight teams – two each from the Americas, Asia, Europe and CIS regions – that will also participate in the ELEAGUE Major Qualifier.  They will face the aforementioned bottom eight teams from the previous Major. The Minors will begin with the Asia and CIS tournaments, held Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 26-29, in Seoul, South Korea and Bucharest, Romania. Minors action will continue with Europe and Americas events, Thursday-Sunday, Nov. 2-5, in Bucharest and Toronto.

Additional information for the early open online stages of the Minors (beginning Oct. 9), is available at the following links for CIS, North America, South America and Europe. Teams competing in the Asia Minor Championship will be invited to participate.

Additional ELEAGUE Major: Boston announcements will be made leading up to the event. Ticketing information will be shared during ELEAGUE’s live coverage of the ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017 Playoffs, beginning next week across TBS, TwitchELEAGUE.com and YouTube. Fans can also access ELEAGUE.com and ELEAGUE on Twitter for the latest information.

About ELEAGUE
ELEAGUE is the premium esports tournament and content brand formed in partnership between Turner and IMG that officially launched in 2016. A leader in the delivery of live event experiences, ELEAGUE content is regularly showcased on TBS and widely distributed across digital platforms including Twitch, YouTube and ELEAGUE.com. Over its first two years, ELEAGUE has produced and staged three season-long competitions featuring Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, along with the first-ever Overwatch® Open. As recognition of its industry-wide impact, ELEAGUE was awarded its first-ever CS:GO Major in January 2017. The ELEAGUE Major Grand Final set a new all-time Twitch record with more than one million concurrent streams, and a total reach of over 3.6 million viewers throughout the course of the event. ELEAGUE received a Sports Emmy® nomination for Outstanding Studio Design and Art Direction in March 2017. In August 2017, ELEAGUE made its first entry into feature-length premium episodic content with the launch of ELEAGUE | Road To The International Dota 2 Championships. ELEAGUE also recently hosted the GEICO ELEAGUE Amateur Series and will soon host the ELEAGUE Injustice 2 World Championship, set to begin this Fall. ELEAGUE’s record-setting ELEAGUE Major in 2017 built momentum for the brand to receive a second CS:GO Major bid, with the ELEAGUE Major: Boston set for early 2018.
