CS:GO Season 4 Skill Divisions & Placement Tournament

Friday, January 17th, 2014

The Season 3 Playoffs are right in the thick of things, but we're far too excited to hold off any longer on getting Season 4 under way! As we get ready to open registration for our 4th season of CS:GO, we're thrilled to announce that we'll again be adding an additional skill division and increasing our CS:GO prize pool for the 3rd consecutive season after a tremendous amount of supprt from the CS:GO community in Season 3. With the start of Season 4, comes the return of the Professional division.  You can read about all of our official Season 4 skill divisions below.

Season 4 and the off-season Placement Tournament will be completely FREE-to-Play for teams in the Open through Main skill divisions. Complete Season 4 details including prize pools, default match days, and our projected full season schedule will be released early next week.

The Open Division (CEVO-O) is completely FREE-to-Play and open to all teams. Designed for beginner teams who are looking to get their feet wet with competitive play.  Teams in this division play one match per week and compete for cash prizes and the chance to move up to the next skill division at the end of the season. The Open division will be separated into three regional conferences to help make scheduling matches a breeze, while allowing teams to play the majority of their matches on servers in their preferred location.

The Intermediate Division (CEVO-IM) is a FREE-to-Play restricted division designed for both new and experienced teams seeking serious competitive play.  Teams can qualify to play in this division through their performance in the previous season or through our off-season Placement Tournament.  Teams in this division will play one match per week in one national conference and compete for cash prizes and the chance to move up to the next skill division at the end of the season.

The Main Division (CEVO-M) is a FREE-to-Play restricted division designed for only very highly skilled and experienced teams looking for serious, near-professional competition. Teams can qualify to play in this division through their performance in the previous season or through our off-season Placement Tournament. Teams in this division will play two matches per week in one national conference and compete for cash prizes. After Season 4, the Main division will be filled exclusively by teams who are moved up based on their performance in the previous CEVO season.

The Professional Division (CEVO-P) *NEW* is our most prestigious division and consists of only the top 16 teams in North America. In Season 4, the Professional division will be filled with teams that are invited to compete at CEVO's discretion. In future seasons, teams will earn spots in this division from their performance in CEVO and their participation in the off-season Professional Placement Tournament. Teams in this division will play two matches per week, in one national conference, and compete for our largest cash prize pool.

Season 4 Off-Season Placement Tournament Details

Registration for the Placement Tournament will open on Thursday, January 16th and close on Thursday, January 30th 2014 at 11:59 PM CST, with play beginning on Monday, February 3rd.

Season 4 Automatic Moveups & Movedowns

s3 Open division teams that have qualified for the Playoffs will be automatically moved into the s4 Intermediate division, while the top 3 teams from Open will receive an additional moveup to the s4 Main division. s3 Intermediate division teams that qualified for the Playoffs will be automatically moved into the s4 Main division. The top three, s3 Main division teams will receive an automatic invite into the new Professional division.

Additionally, teams who finished with less than a .500 regular season record in the s3 Main or Intermediate divisions, who did not qualify for the s3 Playoffs will be automatically moved down one skill division. Teams that have been moved down are encouraged to participate in the off-season Placement Tournament to compete for the chance to retain their spot in one of our restricted skill divisons.

CEVO-TV Coverage

c0tton, klops, misled, latorr and the rest of the CEVO-TV crew will be broadcasting s4 Placement matches. You'll be able to catch all the action on match nights from our freshly re-designed WATCH section and as always, VODs will be available after the matches on our YouTube channel. If for whatever reason a match server doesn't have enough room for our casters or a properly configured GOTV, CEVO will provide you with a server.

@Ali D, the default match time for the Group Stage is going to be 8 PM CST, but teams are encouraged to communicate with their opponents and switch the match times if there is any conflict. If both teams can't agree on a new time, the match will have to be played at the default time though. Let me know if you have any questions about this... Thanks, CEVO|Pipher

Automatic main movedowns with less than a .500 in CPI? I don't see any teams that are higher than a .500.

Although depending on how you do, you'll potentially be playing for more $$$ depending on the skill division that you qualify for. Thanks, CEVO|Pipher

Is the group stage a double elimination bracket, or what?

Group stage is group stage... It's round robin....... I don't think you quite understand how these tournament seedings go. It's like World Cup. You play against all teams in your group, and the top 2 from each go to bracket stage in single elimination.
