CEVO / CS:GO Mapping Contest

Thanks to all of our mappers for their amazing submissions, and to GAMEBANANA.com for their support. We had to take some time to remove fraudulent votes, but we're happy to announce that we finally have our 3 winners. Congratulations!

With over 75 maps submitted, this was our largest mapping contest ever. To see the maps that didn't make the top 10, visit http://csgo.gamebanana.com/maps/cats/7780.

Winners will be contacted via PM on the GAMEBANANA website with instructions on how to claim your prize.

de_gwalior is for me the winner by far. The top 10 seems fair except for 2 maps for my own solid reasons... (which are just my opinion and are not needed to be known). Good luck to all other tops!

Wtf, only good graphics maps are choosed ? Where is de_print with excellent gameplay ? De_gwalior ? Seriously, this is a beautiful map. But this is like a 3v3 game not 5v5. I suppose jury are just tested map alone like that: "OH NICE GRAPHIC MAP, I ADD IT ON THE LIST !" edit: de_pressure is a good gameplay map.

Alot of things went into consideration when choosing these maps. Graphics are not the most important option yet are obvious nice to include. The most important things is the timing of site/spawn placements, rotation time between sites incase of bomb plants, and the basic layout / pathways not being confusing.

lol de_frost is a direct port from cs:s, I have played it many times in previous years on ESEA.

I have pugged 7 of these maps so far with my clan and a rival clan, most are fun but the only map we keep re-pugging is de_conduit. Both teams have a blast on it and the games always comes down to the wire because the map is very balanced imo.

I really put a lot of effort into the gameplay to fit with the CS gameplay and i know it works because I'm not bad at counter-strike, i play in competition level and i'm a redactor of vakarm.net (french CS esport website). I know what i'm talking about and i think you too, you know CS a lot. Then, I can just think you didn't take the appropriate time to analyse some maps (especially maps that has been submitted at the end of the contest), and i'm really offended to see many maps that just can't be played competitively because of their horrible visibility (without even talking about very classic layout we already have in D2, Inferno, Tuscan, Season ...) I really would like to have a feedback from you of my map, i really don't understand.

I was the layout designer for de_pressure and I want to thank CEVO for picking it as one of the top 10 maps. A lot of work went into that map and the sight lines, rotation times and potential diversity in play style and I feel we have a great map for everyone. Grenades were a big deal for me when laying out the bombsites so I hope everyone appreciates that. We also chose to allow nades to be thrown over 90% of the buildings to allow for a variety of strategies. The mapper (kosire) and I worked hard to add a risk/reward system to middle and still make the map fun. I hope everyone enjoys playing it and I hope they will vote for it as their favorite. Good Luck to all those who made the top 10! - Mylk

I submitted de_rails recently, so it is not as known as other maps, but it is balanced and has some new interesting gameplay mechanics, good navigation and readability. At least try it out before voting!

Gwalior was a close favorite after Cefalu - If you haven't played that give it a try, very interesting gameplay on that map.

Honestly doing a community vote was a very bad idea. A lot of people around here do not know what is important or what a good competitive map should entail and simply go based off of how pretty it is. Hell I would wager that a good 70% of the votes were cast based upon the pictures of the maps alone without even loading any of them up. de_gwalior_se is the best looking map and is getting tons of votes but it has an absolutely horrendous layout that has no place being considered a competitive map. It's a glorified public map that should be run on a custom rotation server, not a league. After going through each map one by one and tearing them apart the clear winner should be de_sanguinis. It absolutely blows my mind that it only has 6 votes... The layout is impeccable, the size is perfect, the timings are great, the number of entrances to sites are abundant plus there is a lot of cover. To top that off the map is very clean, it's easy to see things, very few distractions and honestly it's kind of a throwback to old Day of Defeat maps... This league needs to seriously reevaluate the way in which maps are chosen.

This is exactly my feeling aswell. The winner will be the one with the most friends and/or the prettiest map. 90% or so of the votes will be people judging from the pictures, sadly.

Well most of these maps are good, but not competitively good, they are pretty, they are fun, but some are just not worth of 5v5. Too bad map mapkers didn't have to create walk-trough/game-play of the maps. For the_gwalior :) i must say it doesn't deserve to be played ompetitively and most probably will not ever, even though it wins... my favorite de_pressure because of clean look.

Just my opinion: a "good" map for this contest should be one that is strong in terms of game-play, looks, and optimization. Generally speaking, I think game-play should hold more weight than looks, but the levels should at least meet a certain visual standard.
